the town was when a repair of none otherwise Robert Burns, who today has ii streets in the town known as when him, Burns Street & Burns Crescent. Despite existence classed as a new town, Irvine has had an extended history stretching back numerous centuries & was classed as a Royal Burgh. There are besides conflicting rumor that Mary, Queen of Scots was briefly involved in the towns history. Occasionally say she stayed briefly at Seagate Castle. To this day there exists however an annual festival, known as Marymass held in the town.

Harbour History

A harbour for Irvine has got an extended history & it used to be that was one of a virtually all large ports around Scotland fallowing Glasgow. Through from either the main harbour itself there was a terminal for the ICI-Nobel Explosives plant on the River Garnock. Very much of the harbour went into decline in the 19th Century when Glasgow, Greenock and Port Glasgow achieved higher prominence as sea ports. Despite this, there was however commercial sea traffic though a harbour went into farther decline in the 20th Century. The shipyard, Ayrshire shipbuilding remained active until after World War II, though it's last ship was built good before a war. After it was exposed within refitting ships & likewise in a manufacture of fitting for liners including the Queen Elizabeth 2. Irvine Harbour is okay, officially closed as a commercial port and now houses the little total of cabin cruiser. These are as well nowadays at home to section of the Scottish Maritime Museum.

Irvine Harbour is residence to a unique & distinctive building which marked the tide level. Built around 1906 & devised by Martin Boyd, a Harbour Master at that period. A tide was marked around 2 ways based on the instance of day. In the period of daylight, the level was marked by having a ball & pulley system attached to the mast. When asleep, a total of lamps marked the tidal level. Unluckily a building has fallen into a bit of disrepair. A mast has been partly dismantled.

New Town Development

Unlike virtually all Future Towns which were either entirely freshly build or even single got little villages touching the two, Irvine was already the sizeable town. The company, Irvine Development Corporation was install in the 1960's to oversee a development of Irvine which exposed massive & occasionally controversial development to the old area of the town. Transport

Irvine is swell served using many transportation links. The railway station, originally built by the Glasgow and South Western Railway company, is situationed at the west prevent of the town which is on the main line between Stranraer and Glasgow.
